A Buddhist temple from the 9th century, located, quite solitary, in the midst of paddy fields and other crops, about a kilometer to the northwest of Hindu Prambanan. Surrounded by 174 stupas and shrines, the striking twin temples Plaosan Lor and Plaosan Kidul are made up of an upper and lower level. Most of the former statues inside have disappeared, but some headless bodies still linger in the corners of very dark rooms.
It is possible to get into one of the court yards via a side way. To get up into the temples is only possible via stairs. We provide portable ramps for shorter steps, and organise carriers for wheelchair users who want to get up into one of the temples.
